What is the term in heraldry fo a pair of calipers?
I am trying to research a coat of arms that has what looks like a pair of calipers under a crown. It is a shield quarterly, azure, white, a crown over a fleur de lis, a cross with 4 oak leafs?, a cross with four ? (look like short squiggly lines), and a crown with the calipers underneath. The calipers looks like the type used to measure the outside of a round object - not like straight calipers of the type seen in masonic synbols. I have seen this coat of arms on an unidentified military order so I believe it belongs to royalty. The coat of arms appears on a Victorian era piece of mourning jewlery.
