What type of finish is on my dining room table? and can it be refinished?
I "inherited" my mother's old dining room table, and the finish doesn't go with our new house. I am full confident I can sand/refinish it, as it is made out of real cherry wood. My problem?...the top of the table has a very thick coating on it. It is clear, but it doesn't allow watermarks to be left on the table and it resists heat.
Can this be sanded off with good results? Thanks!
What you have to do it purchase a liquid/gel stripper. You can find it in the hardware store. I have used DAP.Zip Strip in the past and it has been very effective. You apply as instructions say and the thick coating will be removed. This may and will take several applications. Then you will want to sand it lightly to the bare wood. Refinish to your liking. Hope it looks great!
